Revolting against culture

Don't forget to revolt against our consumeristic culture this holiday season. Don't take everything you are fed, especially when it comes to giving and receiving gifts. You truly don't have to "go with the flow." It is in the times we revolt that people begin to ask the really important questions. It is in the revolting that God could be glorified in our lives.

Pause and ask some Jesus questions. I will spare you of my Jesus questions, and challenge you to come up with your own.

So, if you want to be a revolutionary like Jesus, there is no better time to start.

Adam,

Do you have any suggestions on how one can "revolt?" How do you plan to do so...if you don't mind me asking. Maybe just a few hints... :)

find other ways to "give presents" that might not include buying the latest gadget for someone - we are spending the day with david and laura next saturday to ice skate and be together as families. this is our "present" to each other.

how about when someone says "i really don't need anything" you say, "ok, me either." that always sounds "cheap" but maybe it is actually true.

have conversations with family and friends regarding the topic of your desire to simplify your life.

my favorite - only ask for practical things. they aren't as fun to give, but I sure do appreciate them. this year I am getting dress shirts, socks and the like.

and when you have kids - by all means, give stuff away when they do receive new presents. kids really don't care what they get if their parents are exhibiting certain behaviors. i contend that parents create some of the monsters we see running around these days.

well that is all for now, but i am sure there are tons of other things we can do, and still be sensitive to people wanting to give and receive gifts.
